Mini implants allow you to enjoy most of the same advantages as full-size dental implants, such as durability and preservation of your jaw structure. They also:

  • Are less invasive than full-size implants. You can get a bone graft or other oral surgery procedure to prepare your jaw for a full-size dental implant if your jaw lacks bone density, but miniature implants don’t usually require any additional surgery.
  • Heal more quickly. After getting full-size implants, you must usually wait a few months for the area to heal before we can attach replacement teeth. With minis, we can usually load them with a dental crown, dental bridge, or dentures right away. You won’t have to come to our office as often for us to check on your progress, either.
  • Don’t take as long to place as full-size implants. The placement procedure is shorter and less complicated. You’ll probably only need local anesthesia, although we can give you dental sedation if you want it.
  • Are less expensive than full-size implants. In many cases, these smaller dental implants are about half as costly as their full-size counterparts.

Mini Implants May Help You Avoid a Bone Graft

Dental implants are a popular tooth replacement option at our dental practice. But they won’t work for everyone. One of the requirements for implants is a strong jaw. It’s difficult for your dentist to place implants if your jaw lacks bone density or if age or health issues might slow healing after the dental implant procedure.

That doesn’t mean dental implants are an impossibility, though. Ask us if mini implants are a good option for you. They are smaller, so they can be placed in areas where larger implants simply aren’t possible.

We’ll evaluate you using advanced technology like 3D imaging and determine if dental implants – either full-size implants or mini dental implants in Florence – will work well for you. Call Advanced Dental Center at (843) 588-1919 to schedule a consultation.

Common Questions About Mini Dental Implants

A mini dental implant is a smaller version of a dental implant. As with traditional dental implants, a post is surgically embedded into your jaw to act as a foundation for the dental restoration that will replace your tooth or teeth. The main difference between mini dental implants and traditional dental implants is that a smaller titanium post is used. A mini implant is about half the size of the titanium post used for traditional dental implants, which requires a less invasive procedure.

Mini dental implants are used in situations where they will work better than full-size implants. They can offer a way to receive implants without a bone graft if your jaw isn’t strong enough for other implants. They can also work well to replace small teeth, in areas like the front of your mouth, and for older adults or others who may experience slow healing times.

Mini dental implants are about half the diameter of full-size implants. Unlike conventional implants, they are made of one solid piece instead of two pieces (the implant itself plus an abutment for your dental restoration). Because of this, they aren’t right for every dental implant placement. One of our implant dentists will help you determine which implants will work best for your situation.
